4 Reasons to Take a Look at a Local Bed and Breakfast for Your Next Trip

PPI_Fall

Have you stayed at a bed and breakfast for business travel lodging in Prescott, AZ or for leisure lately?

There are several reasons to consider a B&B for your next trip. So, if you haven't taken a look recently, maybe now's the time.

Outlined below are some of the most important things  the travelers we talk with are looking for.

More Value for Your Money

The Professional Association of Innkeepers International (PAII) recently completed an industry study and reported the following statistics for bed & breakfasts:

  • 93% offer free high speed wireless internet
  • 94% of rooms have private baths
  • Most bed and breakfasts provide the following in common areas:
    • internet
    • magazines
    • hot/cold beverages
    • board games
    • fireplace
    • refrigerator
    • newspapers
    • telephone
    • cookies/cakes/candies/fruit
    • fresh flowers
    • televisions
  • Most bed and breakfasts provide the following in guest rooms:
    • internet
    • television
    • luxury bed/linens
    • premium branded toiletries
    • robes
    • fireplaces
    • magazines
    • jetted tubs

According to The Better Way to Stay campaign, the amenities offered by many bed and breakfasts today add up to as much as $150 per two-night stay in extra value.

Feel Like You Are Staying At Home

Staying at a bed and breakfast will provide you with not only a clean, private, well-appointed, relaxing room and bathroom, but also quiet relaxing outdoor spaces, healthy homemade breakfasts and owners / innkeepers whose goal is to make sure you feel at home and your needs are met. There is nothing like a B&B for making you feel you are home.

In addition, here are a few things you can do to assist in making your stay away from home feel more like home.

  • Unpack your suitcase and utilize the dresser and closet in your room
  • Bring your own music so you can listen to what you love while relaxing in your room
  • Pack your lounge clothes
  • Visit a local grocery store so that you have some of your favorite foods and beverages in your room

More Flexibility

When traveling, for business or pleasure, you want to feel as though you are operating on your own schedule, not the schedule of the venue where you are resting your head at night. This shouldn't be too much to ask.

At B&B's around the country, many hosts want you to have the ability to come and go as you please, just like if you were at home or even renting a home somewhere. While B&B’s don’t have a 24/7 desk clerk, you are typically greeted by the owners who will provide you with the information you need to come and go at your leisure. If you can’t check-in during regular check-in hours, most B&B’s have a self-check-in process for after hours.

In most cases, B&B’s provide a multi-course homemade breakfast and gather information about your dietary restrictions and food allergies in advance. Say good-bye to that cookie-cutter breakfast bar.

Support Local Business

People are becoming more and more aware of how localism can result in more wealth and jobs per capita in their community. According to a 2012 study, money spent at a locally owned business generates almost four times as much economic benefit for the surrounding region as spending money at a chain establishment. The bottom line is that each and every one of us has a choice when deciding whether to spend our money at a locally owned business or a chain. It is our responsibility to understand how our choice will affect our communities and our own families.

By staying at a local bed and breakfast you are supporting a locally owned business. In addition, many B&B's support local businesses themselves as can be seen in the list below.

    • use local artists and artisans to furnish their inns
    • purchase food locally
    • employ local residence
    • source needed services locally
